Burgundy Travel is the US agent for Bourgogne En Douce, a French tourism company with the goal to have the discrete and often surprising charm of Burgundy both known and appreciated. As an organizer of festive events, it has its own establishment in the Auxois region of Burgundy. It is made up of 7 houses (of which a number were formerly winemakers' homes) grouped around an old, terraced orchard where up to 50 people can be accommodated in 25 bedrooms with private baths. The company was formed around a group of old friends who fell in love with the Auxois region. Even if this area is centrally located geographically and equidistant from the more well known cities of Avallon, Beaune and Dijon, it remains relatively unknown as it is removed from the more frequented areas of Burgundy. The region is a transportation hub, well connected by a dense network of roads and highways, and linked to the most important economic centers of France such as Paris and Lyon. Belgium is just 5 hours away and Switzerland only 2 hours. Yet the region itself has remained almost forgotten, which perhaps explains its charm. It is easily accessible, but preserved, extraordinarily rich in monuments and historic sites. Bourgogne En Douce also owns a house of charm, done in the same spirit, at the gates of Paris. The "Maison du Coteau" is rented to visitors who want to visit Paris but who prefer to avoid the more tiring aspects of such a stay.
